50 Cent to Develop Starz Drama ‘Power’…Or Die Trying
Starz is certainly looking to pick up new dramas, what with the earlier cancellation of 'Boss,' and the upcoming final run of 'Spartacus: War of the Damned,' even 'Magic City' having a somewhat tepid reception. For its latest effort Starz has partnered with rapper and occasional actor 50 Cent for 'Power,' which might have one of the vaguest titles and premises we've ever heard. Get the big (little) scoop inside!
Is 50 Cent feeling 'Power'-ful? Starz certainly hopes so, according to Variety, partnering with the rapper (real name Curtis Jackson) to develop upcoming hour-long drama 'Power,' the tale of a "Gotham nightclub owner who skirts the line between legitimacy and criminality." Because no one else on TV does that.
The project will be written and executive produced by 'The Good Wife' scribe and producer Courtney Kemp Agboh, along with 50 Cent, '300's" Mark Canton and 'End of Watch's Randall Emmett.
Elsewhere, Starz has the 'Treasure Island' prequel and Michael Bay produced 'Black Sails' in its pocket, 'Da Vinci's Demons,' and has been kicking around the notion of developing a 'Spartacus' spin-off to focus on Australian actor Todd Lasance's portrayal of Julius Caesar in the upcoming season.
What say you? Would you watch a 50 Cent produced drama, without the rapper starring? Can you gleam anything from 'Power?'
