For the fourth year in a row, Ottawa County is the healthiest county in the state, coming in at #1 out of 83.

The County Health Rankings & Roadmaps (CHR&R) ranks the health of every county in each state so they know what factors are making people sick, keeping them healthy and how to create a healthy environment so in turn people have a better way of life. The study looks at how long people live and how healthy they feel including

  • Health Behaviors (diet/exercise, alcohol, etc)
  • Clinical Care (access to and quality of care)
  • Social & Economic Factors (Education, employment, income, etc)
  • Physical Environment (housing, water quality, etc)

You can see a breakdown of how Ottawa County scored in the categories here. But they scored the best in things like how long people live, graduation rates, and low unemployment.

Other West Michigan counties and where they ranked include: Barry (#10), Kent (#12), Allegan (#14), Ionia (#18), Kalamazoo (#26), & Muskegon (#75)
