‘Meh’ – We Asked AI to Roast Grand Rapids, Michigan and Here’s What it Said
Our robot overlords are slowly but surely taking over and these days it's hard to tell if a picture you see or article you read is legit, or if it was made by AI (artificial intelligence.) While AI can definitely be useful for some things, it doesn't always hit the mark.
But, after seeing this popular trend on Instagram, I decided to head over to ChatGPT and ask it to do something very simple, "You are a comedian doing a roast people from Grand Rapids, Michigan."
Take this all with a grain of salt and remember that AI isn't a real person and therefore doesn't really have a personality (or sense of humor).
That being said, here's ChatGPT's response to that prompt.
Okay... they're not totally wrong about the weather part, but Grand Rapids has a lot more going for it than beer.
It didn't stop there, though...
ArtPrize may be the biggest and longest thing we have going on in the city, but we have festivals almost every weekend when the weather is nice enough (and sometimes when it's not.) And hey! ArtPrize is changing things up all of the time - this year they have a halftime show!
ChatGPT wasn't done with us - and frankly, I don't get why this one is a bad thing...
What's wrong with that?!? Who doesn't like wrapping up in a cozy sweater?!? They're especially great during the colder months, which the next part of the roast addresses.
I can't even argue this one... AI nailed it.
But then... THEN... AI dealt a low blow. You know that saying, "If you ain't Dutch, you ain't much"? Well...
Listen here, stupid robot... First of all - the tulip festival is in Holland, NOT Grand Rapids. Second of all, the Dutch have brought us amazing things like stroopwafel and poffertjes.

But this last bit... this didn't just insult Grand Rapids, it also went after Detroit. So basically, AI came for the throats of all of Michigan in three sentences.
No, we're not Detroit. Grand Rapids/West Michigan and Detroit are vastly different places. But, both have a ton to offer and Detroit has been seeing a ton of revitalization over the past decade or so.
So, again, shut up stupid robot.
But here's the thing... I should have known... Because THIS is what AI thinks that a typical day in Grand Rapids looks like...
