According to an article in USA today, ABC thinks that the soap opera is dead. The network announced today that they will be canceling AllMy Children and One Life To Live.

All My Children hit the airwaves in 1970, and will come to an end in September. One Life To Live, which has been around for two years longer, will be ending in January.

ABC released a statement saying, "Guided by extensive research into what today’s daytime viewers want and the changing viewing patterns of the audience, ABC is evolving the face of daytime television with the launch of two new shows."

This will leave General Hospital as the only remaining soap on the network. (I don't mind, it's my favorite.)

Replacing the long running soap operas will be a cooking show, and one about "health and lifestyle transformations".

What will Susan Lucci do?
