A change is coming to how Amazon delivers packages to our homes, and it's likely to ruffle some Michiganders' feathers.

I hadn't heard anything about the change, but noticed a message that popped up after I placed an order on Saturday night.
Changes to Where Amazon Will Deliver Packages
After placing my order, the "Order placed, thanks!" message popped up as it usually does. But, under the estimated delivery dates, there was another message.
Now, it's possible that if you've ordered something from Amazon recently, you didn't get this same message. I'm guessing that the reason I received this message is that my delivery instructions ask the delivery folks to drop packages at our side door.

According to this message that popped up, Amazon delivery drivers will no longer drop packages at side or back doors beginning August 31. I get it, the move is important for the safety of the drivers.
But... I feel like this isn't a one-size-fits-all situation.
Should Amazon Only Deliver Packages to Front Doors?
A lot of folks that I know (myself included) don't even use their front doors. If there's an easily accessible side door, that is often the door that is used to enter and exit the house. In my case, our side door is actually more easily accessible from our driveway than our front door.
Personally, I feel like my Amazon delivery driver would prefer to simply walk down the driveway, drop off the package, and walk away. (Maybe I'm wrong.) If it becomes mandated that they drop it off at the front door, they'll have to open and close a gate to access it.
Additional Ways to Get Your Amazon Orders
On Monday, I received an email from Amazon further explaining the change. In the email, it asked me to change my delivery location (if it doesn't get changed, it will default to the front door). It also offered a different way of getting my packages.
Amazon now has pickup locations (mostly Amazon lockers) located throughout West Michigan. You can find your closest pickup location by entering your address here.
