A massive 30 vehicle pileup on I-94 has taken a life. The accident was near Mattawan and the driver is a resident from Kalamazoo County.

According to WOOD, the Michigan State Police say the pile up occurred just after 9 a.m. Tuesday at mile marker 66 on westbound I-94 in Van Buren County's Antwerp Township.

The driver that was killed in the crash was 89-years-old and from the Kalamazoo County area but the Michigan State Police are not releasing his name at this time.

Two people were taken to the hospital that were involved in the crash but no word of one of them were the man who was killed.

The 30 vehicle crash involved a variety of vehicles including passenger cars and trucks and semi trucks and police are still trying to figure out the catalyst of the crash.

Snow, slick roads and strong winds were the causes of several crashes on I-94, I-96, I-196 and US-131.

The 30 vehicle pile caused I-94 to be closed for multiple hours.
