Sure, some may call it "fast food" and it is, indeed, a chain, but, man, do I miss BD's Mongolian Grill.

What Happened to BD's Mongolian Grill in Grand Rapids?

Here in Grand Rapids, we used to have one on 28th St. That location closed back in 2017 after nearly 20 years in business. It appears that the building itself remained standing until sometime in 2019, based on this screengrab from Google Streeview from July 2019.

Now, the space is part of the parking lot for Toyota of Grand Rapids.

Are There Any BD's Mongolian Grills Left in Michigan?

The restaurant recently came up when I was talking to a friend of mine and I was lamenting about how much I missed it (especially because they took food allergies very seriously and had an allergen station where your food would be cooked in separate pans with separate utensils).

So, I looked into whether or not you could still experience the BD's magic in Michigan. It turns out, you can. But if you're here in West Michigan, it's going to require a bit of a drive.

There are currently seven states that still have at least one BD's Mongolian Grill - Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, and Ohio.

When I saw Michigan on that list, I got excited. Unfortunately, despite what their website says, there's only one Michigan BD's Mongolian Grill location left.

BD's Mongolian Grill Locations in Michigan

Unfortunately for all of us who live on the west side or in Northern Michigan, the remaining BD's location is on the east side of the state.

Canton, at 42089 Ford Road.

So if you want to get your Mongolian Grill fix, you'll have to take a roadtrip to the east side of the state. Until then, West Michigan fans can reminisce about the sizzle, the smells, and the amazing bowls that made it so memorable.
