Hurricane Ian swept through South West Florida late last month, leaving destruction and record deaths in its wake. We've heard countless stories and seen hundreds of videos of people doing everything they can to literally stay afloat while their lives washed away.

And while we always think first of the people affected, there were hundred of animals also displaced, many of which were homeless to start. They struggled, and fought to stay alive and now Grand Rapids based Bissell has stepped in with their Pet Foundation to help these pets in crisis.

They've been working hard to find these wonderful pets a FURever home away from the hurricane damage with families ready to take them in across the US. First, 40 cats were sent to a shelter in Tennessee.

The next day, more cats and dogs made the trek out of Naples, Florida to Ohio, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Vermont, and Canada.

These weeks efforts have helped them save over 250+ animals so far, with plans to continue until their efforts to find homes for these pets are complete.

They've teamed up with the Naples Humane Society amongst other organizations to locate and house these animals until they can be transported. So, it's truly been a nationwide effort to find these pets a home.

Can I adopt these pets?

Yes, they will be available for adoption. However, none of them as of now are in Michigan, but if you're willing to travel to one of the states that have taken these animals in, you may be able to rescue them, too.

How can I help?

While not all of us can head to Florida to volunteer, or take in an additional animal, you can donate online to help with their efforts.
