Blue Angels and Thunderbirds Flyover of Michigan Planned for Wednesday Has Been Postponed
UPDATE: The Blue Angels flyover that was scheduled for Wednesday, April 28, 2020 has been postponed due to "unforeseen circumstances," according to ClickonDetroit. A new date has not been announced at this time.
The US Navy Blue Angels and US Air Force Thunderbirds begin their flyovers of US cities today to honor healthcare workers around the country. The flyovers will begin with Philadelphia, New York, and New Jersey and then they will doing more flyovers over the next several days, including Michigan.
On Wednesday, the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds are planning a flyover of Michigan. The flight plan has not yet been released but the Thunderbirds Twitter has been posting their flight paths the day before their flyovers.
The flyovers are part of #AmericaStrong and each show will be about a half hour long and will involve about a dozen aircraft. It is assumed that Detroit will be part of the flyover, but any other locations in Michigan are up in the air (pun intended). It would make sense that the flyovers would also include Grand Rapids and possibly Lansing because flyovers are also planned for Chicago and Indianapolis.
According to the Thunderbirds website, the aircraft they will use are a formation of 6 F-16C/D Fighting Falcon and 6 F-18C/D Hornet aircraft. And the Blue Angels will be flying F/A-18 Super Hornet.
The Blue Angels posted a reminder that while they are doing these flyovers, people should not gather and social distancing should still be practiced.
Keep an eye on our website and on the Thunderbirds Twitter for the flight path the flyovers will take on Wednesday.
