It’s Official: Arizona Bowl Canceled, Central Michigan To Play In Sun Bowl
Add The Arizona Bowl to the list of College Football Bowl Games that have been canceled. Hawaii, Fenway, and Military bowls have been canceled due to COVID-19 issues.
Boise State Broncos were scheduled to play the Central Michigan Chippewas at Arizona Stadium on Friday at 2 pm but instead joined numerous college programs that have been hit with coronavirus issues coming out of the Christmas break.
Where Does This Leave The Chippewas?Central Michigan will instead play Washington State in the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas
Washington State was originally set to play Miami in the Sun Bowl. However, the Hurricanes withdrew due to COVID issues, leaving open the spot that was fulfilled by CMU.
This is CMU's first appearance in the 88th Annual Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl. As The Chippewas' were in Tucson, ready to play in the Arizona Bowl, they have only a 4-hour drive to El Paso for the new assignment.
Sports Illustrated notes,
"Central Michigan has not won a bowl game since 2012 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, and has never beaten a Power 5 opponent in a bowl game. Washington State has two bowl wins in the last 18 years, most recently winning the 2018 Alamo Bowl against Iowa State."
The College Football Playoff semifinals will be held on Dec. 31 at the Cotton Bowl in Arlington, Texas, and the Orange Bowl in Miami Gardens, Florida. The national championship game will wrap up the bowl season extravaganza on Jan. 10 in Indianapolis.
