If you’ve been considered an essential frontline worker through the pandemic, you’re may be eligible for tuition-free college, but you need to hurry and get the paperwork filled out because the deadline to take advantage is running out.

MLive reports that as the deadline, 11:59 pm December 31st, approaches to sign up for the Future for Frontliners program, Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) is wanting to help frontline workers finish their application and make sure they are able to enroll for higher learning.

If you were at least part-time between April 1 and June 30 and worked 11 out of the 13 weeks and at least part of the time had to leave your house for work, you’re eligible for the tuition-free schooling.

MLive says so far 1,700 people have been accepted to GRCC with another 6,000 or so people waiting for their application to go through state approval. That’s where GRCC wants to step in a help. A lot of those applications are being held up because the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) isn’t completed or people are having trouble figuring out what all they need.  As MLive reports, GRCC is encouraging frontline workers who want to call their financial aid hotline or the Future for Frontliners hotline to get help.

According to MLive,

Anyone who needs help with the application process or completing FAFSA can call the GRCC Financial Aid hotline at 616-234-4030 or the Future for Frontliners hotline at 616-234-3344. Questions can also be emailed futures4frontliners@grcc.edu or texted to 616-404-4519. More information is available here.

GRCC’s Associate Provost and Dean of Student Affairs, Tina Hoxie said in a release on MLive,

“Financial aid specialists can help finish the form, and answer any other questions about enrolling and how a GRCC education can help someone gain new skills and advance in their careers. Futures for Frontliners is perfect for students of all ages, helping them start working toward a degree or certificate or picking up where they might have left off.”
