Downtown Grand Rapids Will Not Add More Parking… For Now
A proposal to add more parking in downtown GR didn’t go as planned at Tuesday’s city commission meeting.
WOOD-TV reports that council members were split in a 3-3 vote to add more parking near the downtown location of the public library.
A rendering of a 7-level ramp was suggested, which would add 360 new parking spaces. The proposal also recommended working with private businesses who are struggling to grow because of the lack of parking (MLive). While commissioners agreed that there is a shortage of parking in that area, they were concerned if it would end up being a financial payoff. They also did not want to make any decisions without Mobile GR and Parking Services being involved.
Since it did not pass, Mobile GR will take up the matter at their meeting on Thursday, 12/14.
