Lin-Manuel Miranda Joins ‘DuckTales’ Reboot as Gizmoduck
We still don’t know exactly when Disney’s DuckTales reboot will hit, but it certainly won’t throw away its shot when it does. Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda will be around to make sure of it, lending his voice to the robotic hero Gizmoduck.
Per TVLine, Miranda will play the reboot role of Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera, a Gyro Gearloose intern who moonlights fighting crime in Duckburg as the superhero Gizmoduck. In addition to the photo below, read what co-producer Francisco Angones had to say of tweaking the role for the 2017 update:
Growing up as a Cuban-American comics enthusiast, I was always hungry for a Latino hero to call my own. In developing the new series, [executive producer Matt Youngberg] and I leapt at the opportunity to adapt DuckTales‘ marquee hero into a young scientist character with Latin-inspired roots.
Already renewed for Season 2, the new Disney XD DuckTales features among its cast Jessica Jones star and Doctor Who favorite David Tennant as Scrooge McDuck, along with SNL alum Bobby Moynihan as Louie, Ben Schwartz as Dewey, Danny Pudi as Huey, Kate Micucci as Webby, Toks Olagundoye as Mrs. Beakley, and Beck Bennett as Launchpad McQuack.
Eyed for a summer 2017 premiere, the first season will also consist of twenty-one half-hour episodes and two hourlong specials, with Matt Youngberg serving as executive producer beside story editor/co-producer Francisco Angones, and Gravity Falls art director Sean Jimenez.
Disney XD should hopefully have a more specific DuckTales premiere soon, but watch the trailer below and stay tuned.
