UPDATE (September 26 2:30 p.m.): Well folks, it looks like we're going to have to wait jut a touch longer. According to MDOT, the ramp will now open on Friday, September 27 at 9 a.m. (18 hours later than originally planned.)

ORIGINAL STORY: Our long, local nightmare is finally (hopefully) almost over.

After being delayed for over a month, officials have announced that the ramp from northbound US-131 to I-96 will officially open on Thursday, September 26 at 3 p.m.

The project began in April, and was initially expected to be finished by the end of August. However, MDOT announced at the end of August that it would remain closed.

The headache won't completely end on Thursday, though. FOX-17's Rob Westaby reports that while the ramp will be open, it won't be completely open. The ramp will be one lane only until mid-November.

As Rob says, "If you’re the kind of person who looks on the bright side, you could say the ramp is reopening early."

You can read more about the project, as well as the specifics of the reopening from Rob Westaby and FOX-17, on their website.

Additional Road Construction in West Michigan

Unfortunately, I wish that I could report that the ramps from east and westbound I-96 to westbound M-6 were reopening soon, too. But, it seems that those projects will be continuing until November 9 at 9 p.m.

You can see a full list of the ongoing construction projects around West Michigan on MDOT's website. If you click on the project you're wondering about, MDOT will give you additional information (including when the project is expected to be finished.)
