Michigan’s Funkateers Get Terry Crews’ Golden Buzzer on ‘America’s Got Talent’
A group of lifelong friends from Inkster (Metro Detroit) known as The Funkateers just danced their way into America’s heart and straight to the live shows on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” (AGT).
And the most magical part of it all? They got there thanks to a Golden Buzzer moment from fellow Michigander and AGT host, Terry Crews. Talk about a full-circle moment for Michigan-made talent.
The Funkateers have known each other for over four decades. They first performed together back in 1980, winning a local high school talent show. Since then, life took them in different directions, and they hadn’t performed together since 1989, at one of their own weddings.
That’s until they took to the AGT stage for a performance worth re-watching. These four seemingly low-profile men danced in a way that left the crowd and judges roaring.
When they introduced themselves backstage as being from Detroit, Terry Crews lit up and proudly shared that he’s from Flint, making the connection even more meaningful.
Once onstage, the Funkateers brought the house down with a funky, high-energy dance to Rick James’ “Give It To Me Baby.” Terry watched side stage, losing his mind with Michigan pride.
Their moves earned cheers, standing ovations, and even praise from judge Simon Cowell, who at the end admitted he was planning to hit the Golden Buzzer himself before Terry Crews ran to the podium to claim them for himself.
From a high school talent show in Michigan to one of the biggest stages in the country, the Funkateers are living proof that it’s never too late to chase your dreams, or funk up the dance floor one more time with your friends.
