Heading to the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival? Don’t Get Your Chairs Confiscated

The city of Grand Haven has put out its Coast Guard festival space reservation policy.

The Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival is a huge, 10-day annual celebration dedicated to honoring the men and women of the United States Coast Guard.

The festival goes from the last weekend of July through the first weekend of August, drawing over 350,000 visitors to the lakeshore every summer.

One of the most popular parts of Coast Guard Festival is the parade and fireworks.

The city of Grand Haven has put out important information that you need to know if you plan on saving a spot for yourself.

What The Public Can Do

After 12:01 A.M. on Friday, July 31, 2026 you will be allowed to mark your spot on all public property by using the following items.

• Caution tape
• Golf tees
• Chairs

The city says that if you put anything out before then city crews will remove it.

What The Public Can't Do

Besides not setting anything out too early, here are the things that are not allowed to be used to mark your spot.

• Tents
• Sand bags
• Plastic tarps
• Duct tape
• Rocks
• Stakes
• Spray paint

Things like plastic tarps are bad for the grass, and rocks and stakes can present a tripping hazard.

Any of these prohibited items that are found in a public park or on public property at any time will be removed by the City of Grand Haven.
