Grand Haven Pier Construction: What Summer Beachgoers Need to Know Now

One of my favorite places to go is Grand Haven.

My wife and I usually stop and grab a couple of Pronto Pups and then make our way down to the Pier to watch the sunset.

If you're planning on going to Grand Haven, and want to walk on the pier, there is a chance you won't be able to because of upcoming construction.

Grand Haven Pier To Temporarily Close For Repairs

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be doing work on the Grand Haven south pierhead between July 9-13.

The work being done is to help protect the pier from erosion.

This project will require temporary closures to pedestrian traffic near the lighthouse to ensure public safety.

In a press release Liz Wilkinson, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Grand Haven Office operations manager explained what work was going to be done.

"This armor stone placement is a critical interim measure to protect the integrity of the south pierhead," By stabilizing the loose sheet piles now, we are preventing further damage while our team continues to finalize the design for a permanent, long-term fix to the structure."

It will only take about half a day to complete the work but it's hard to predict when it will be done because it all depends on the weather and waves on Lake Michigan being safe to do the work.
