
Griffins’ Record Start Has Grand Rapids Dreaming Of Another Calder Cup
There are a lot of happy hockey fans across Michigan right now.

Team USA’s men’s and women’s teams both just won gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy, with Michigan-born players playing huge parts in the teams’ success.

The Detroit Red Wings are climbing the standings and looking to make a playoff appearance.
At the college level, Michigan and Michigan State are currently sitting in first and second place in the NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey rankings.
While all of this is going on, something very special is happening in Grand Rapids with the Griffins.
Grand Rapids Griffins’ Best Start in AHL History
The Grand Rapids Griffins recently defeated the Milwaukee Admirals 4-3 in overtime.
With that big win, the Grand Rapids Griffins claimed the best start in the AHL’s 90-year history through 50 games at 40-7-2-1 (83 pts.).
The previous AHL record was set by the 1992-93 Binghamton Rangers (38-6-6).
With that win the Griffins also became the first in league history to win their first 40-of-50 games.

Hopefully the Griffins can continue their winning ways and head into the post season healthy.
If they do that, then they’ve got a really great chance of bringing the Calder Cup back to Grand Rapids for the first time since 2017, when they defeated the Syracuse Crunch in six games.
