Grand Rapids is One of the Best Cities for Single People!
If you've thought "why am I still single?" well it could be a few different reasons: you choose to be, not many options where you live, or there's something wrong with you. And since Grand Rapids is one of the best cities for singles... then it's definitely you!
Just kidding :) But if you are single and looking for Mr/s. Right (or even Mr/s. Rightnow) than Grand Rapids is an ideal place to be!
At least that's what a new study from WalletHub determined after finding 2018's Best & Worst Cities for Singles. They compared 182 U.S. cities using 3 Key Factors:
- Economics (i.e. costs of things to do, income, employment rates)
- Fun & Recreation (i.e. # of attractions, nightlife, restaurants, social clubs, safety)
- Dating Opportunities (i.e. # of single people, male to female ratio, online dating)
Based on these, believe it or not, Atlanta, GA is the #1 place for a single person to be. They call it HOTlanta for a reason, right? And unless you want to be the 40-year-old forever virgin then its best to avoid Brownsville, TX which is the WORST place for single people to be, where the dating opportunities are slim-to-none and there's no fun to be had. And if you're wondering where the heck Brownsville, Texas is... exactly!
As far as G.R. goes it came in at #39. Grand Rapids scored fairly well in all of the key factors: 31, 57, and 54 respectively. Furthermore, what's interesting is that Detroit has the highest percentage of single people [compared to the other cities] and still managed to fall towards the bottom of the list at #140. I guess being the "comeback city" doesn't apply to love.

Back in February, Michigan was ranked as one of the best states for single people. I was single then, and 9 months later, I'm still riding the solo train. Brownsville, Texas isn't looking too bad right now.
