Pickleball has been around for over 50 years, but it's always been seen as a sport for "older" people.

It was originally invented by Joel Pritchard who was a congressman from Washington State that got bored and decided to make up the game to pass some time. Since then, the sport hasn't been super popular until recently.

Over the last year, Pickleball has become increasingly popular for people of all ages in West Michigan, with several new places to play opening up to the public. But, sometimes it can be a little unaffordable to learn if you're not a member of a club

That's why the Grand Rapids Pickleball Club is now offering the next generation of players a chance to learn for free by offering lessons. Since it isn't offered in schools, they want to offer kids the chance to learn on the weekends.

The Grand Rapids Pickleball Club is now offering free lessons for kids between 8 to 17 at Belknap Park, to help encourage new players and to make it more accessible for parents who may not play or want to spend over a grand on lessons.

There are four courts reserved just for the youth, and the free lessons are offered on Sundays from 4 to 5pm.

Make sure you sign your child up to attend at Grand Rapids Pickleball Club website before they arrive so they know to expect you. And you'll want to sign up quick because these free spots are going fast!

And it's not just lessons they're offering- free play is available for kids after the lessons and again on Wednesdays starting at 5pm.
