After being closed since March due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Grand Rapids Public Museum will reopen next month.

GRPM shared on their website that they'll be opening to the public July 6, with special member days July 1-3.

The museum has new policies in place for the health and safety of guests and staff. To ensure contactless entry, GRPM asks that you buy tickets in advance here. Their staff will then be able to quickly scan your digital tickets using the 6 foot rule.

Anyone not feeling well is asked to stay home.

GPRM's additional new policies include:

  • You will see GRPM staff wearing face masks, and visitors are asked to do the same, unless an individual is medically unable to tolerate a face covering or is under the age of 2
  • Point of sale stations will have plexiglass to maintain social distancing
  • Signage has been added throughout the building to ensure physical distancing is top of mind on your visit
  • High touch point areas and experiences have been removed or augmented with additional cleaning supplies to limit the spread of germs
  • Touch screen and virtual reality experiences will not be available immediately following re-opening
  • Cleaning efforts have been increased in accordance with health department suggestions and regulations, including more frequent cleaning protocols
  • Only one party ride the elevator at a time
  • Additional hand sanitizing stations have been installed
  • Locally-made face masks and hand sanitizer will be available for purchase at the Curiosity Shop

GPPM's gift store, The Curiosity Shop, will open on July 6 with limited capacity. The Museum Cafe will also reopen July 6, offering pre-packaged snacks and beverages, also with limited capacity.

At this time, the Chaffee Planetarium is not scheduled to open. GPRM asks that you check back closer to July 6 as this may change.

In addition to GRPM's three floors of core exhibits, Bodies Revealed  has been extended to Sunday, September 27.
