Grand Rapids Breakaway Music Festival Became Scooter Central

If you were looking for a Lime scooter this weekend in downtown Grand Rapids, you were probably looking in the wrong place.

A TikTok posted Saturday night showed what can only be described as the great scooter migration of 2025: dozens of those bright green Lime guys stacked up side by side outside Belknap Park.

Breakaway Music Festival was the spot to ride a scooter this weekend, and it seems like everyone in the GR knew it.

I’m not going to lie, it’s kind of genius. Anyone who’s tried to park anywhere near Belknap during Breakaway or Upheaval knows it’s can be a headache, especially if you plan to arrive later into the day or don’t have a carpool to join.

So why not ditch the car, hop on a scooter, and roll right up to the festival for a lot less than an uber would cost? Makes total sense to me.

Someone on Tiktok named Holly shared finding them all at once they arrived later:

The only problem: If you were in another part of the city trying to track one down for a quick ride, well… good luck. Between festival-goers and the scooter pile-up, chances are you were left refreshing the Lime app with nothing but false hope and sore feet.

Whether you love them, hate them, or just trip over them on sidewalks, the Lime scooters have become part of Grand Rapids life. And this weekend proved that when the city heads to a big event, the scooters do too.

So if you’re trying to find one next time? Skip the hunt downtown… just follow the music.

Upheaval Festival 2025 brought Rob Zombie, Falling in Reverse, Architects, Wage War, The Funeral Portrait, The Plot in You, Taproot, Crossfade, Vended, Dead Poet Society, and more to Grand Rapids for two packed days of rock at Belknap Park. Even with a weather delay that temporarily paused the party, fans returned ready to go—and the music didn’t miss a beat.
