After 35 years on the corner of Leonard Ave. near the East Beltline, Gus's Original is closing its doors for good.

The owners of the stone oven pizza joint, the Koukios family, posted about the closure to Facebook, saying they were going to "pursue other opportunities".

They thanked their customers, guests and employees, saying,

Gus’s has been an important fixture on the corner of Leonard and East Beltline, and has been part of our family for over 35 years. It will always be known to us as “Gus’s Corner,” after Gus Koukios who pioneered the East Beltline corridor in the early 1980s."

The restaurant's final day will be Tuesday, June 18.

According to the post, the Koukios family has not ruled out a return to the restaurant business, "but will be taking some time off to decide what’s next and catch up on some much needed family time".
