An apparent lightning strike forced the evacuation of South Shore Christian Middle School in Holland Tuesday.

It happened as storms began rolling into the area just after 2 p.m. According to WZZM 13 News smoke was reportedly coming from the roof. Firefighters inspected the building and had the flames extinguished by 2:56 p.m.

All eighth grade students were evacuated from the building within a minute. The seventh grade class was on a field trip at the time of the incident. The evacuated students were taken to Holland Christian High School while firefighters investigated the strike.

No injuries were reported.
