There are many men and women across the state of Michigan that work for Michigan Department of Transportation.

They work in the day and at night in all kinds of weather conditions to build and repair the roads.

Along with being exposed to the elements these workers are also in constant danger with 2,000lb vehicles whizzing by them.

Data from the State of Michigan shows that in 2025 there were 25 work zone fatalities and 1,199 injuries in Michigan, with 3 workers killed. In 2024 16 people died in work zones and 23 in 2022, mainly due to drivers not paying attention.

A potential disaster was stopped by MDOT workers that could have injured or killed someone.

Holland Woman Busted For DUI In Construction Zone

On Wednesday April 22 around 5:22pm Michigan State troopers responded to a 911 call on I-96 east of M-66 near the truck scales.

A 20 year-old woman from Holland drove past a posted road closure sign and entered an active construction site at a high rate of speed. MDOT workers were able to safely block the vehicle in until law enforcement arrived on the scene.

The MSP Sixth District shared some pictures on social media of the incident.

In the first picture you can see the black BMW blocked in by MDOT employee vehicles.

The woman was arrested and transported to the Ionia County Jail on potential charges of OWI, reckless driving, and minor in possession.
