Investigators have identified the woman whose body was discovered in the Grand River Monday morning. They say 72-year-old Sharon Roersma of Coopersville was killed, and that she died of head trauma before going into the water.

Police also have a person of interest in custody, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Mark Bennett.

Police say Roersma's body was likely only in the water for a short time. The nice weather over the weekend brought a lot of boating activity to the portion of the river near the Bur Oak boat launch on Sunday. The body would likely have been seen Sunday had it been there, which leads investigators to believe that the victim went into the water sometime during the night.
