Rockford Pride: State Senator Honors Two Championship Teams at the Capitol

Two West Michigan High Schools teams recently got the chance to head to the State Capitol in Lansing to be recognized for their amazing achievements.

The Rockford Rams boys high school basketball team who won the division 1 state championship after defeating East Lansing 54-50 on March 14, 2026, at the Breslin Center.

Along with the Rockford Rams girls dance team, who won Michigan's first-ever dance championship and placed 11th and 12th in the country, were invited by State Sen. Mark Huizenga who represents Michigan's 30th Senate District.

Senator Huizenga brought both teams to the Senate Floor for a picture and to be recognized with an official State of Michigan tribute.

“These young men and women made their community proud. Both teams reached the pinnacle of competition in our state, and both returned home victorious. These students should be incredibly proud of the milestone they achieved, and I really hope they individually take the time to realize how special this accomplishment is.” - Sen. Huizenga

I love that these players and coaches got such a cool opportunity and were recognized for all of their hard work and dedication.
