Michigan High School Football Play Makes Sportscenter Top 10

This past weekend was one of the best weekends of the year, Thanksgiving weekend. Outside of great times with family, friends, and tons of good food, there is so much football being played across the country. The weekend starts with NFL football taking on Turkey day where the top 3 players from the winning team will chomp into a turkey leg and ends with the rest of the NFL playing their weekly game.

Also this weekend is Rivalry Week in the NCAA as the biggest and best football rivalries in the country go toe-to-toe on the gridiron looking to best their archnemesis and continue their hopes for a national championship. Although all of this is going on, the best and most exciting football of the Thanksgiving weekend takes place amongst high schoolers. Many states, including Michigan, host their football finals Thanksgiving weekend, and this Michigan High School football player made the top 10 plays.

Belleville High School Tigers are no strangers to the biggest stages in Michigan High School Football as just last year they were being fitted for Championship rings after taking down the Caledonia High School Scots. This year, they found themselves back in familiar territory as they were back at Ford Field to take on the Southfield Arts and Technology Warriors in the Division 2 state championship game.

For the last 4 years, they been led to greatness on the field and in the headlines by 5-star, #1 player and QB in the country and state, Bryce Underwood who has many offers from the best colleges in the country. So of course, Bryce made waves during their 4-point loss to the warriors, but he wasn't the Belleville Tiger that made the special play that landed on ESPN's Sportscenter this morning.

Everyday Sportscenter finds the best plays from the previous day or two and make a countdown list from 10-1. This past weekend, Joseph Stephens III, a 5'10 Senior made a ridiculous play on the ball from his Defensive Back position. As you can see in the video below, Stephens watching the QB's eyes and reaches up to snag the ball out of the air.

The cool thing is that he ends up landing with his back facing the quarterback and the ball is falling behind him. He then reaches behind him and pins the ball against his own back before landing on both feet and pulling the ball into his bicep. He then takes off running for some yards before being brought down with what is probably the high school interception of the year.

The video should start with that play, if not, the interception starts at 8:49. Although he made this play and was featured in the Top 10 plays on Sportscenter the Tigers did lose to the Warriors and would not be back-to-back state champions. Even with his high school career over, I hope that there are coaches out there with their eyes on him because he could be helpful at the next level.
