Everyone makes that final stop at the gas station before they hit the highway for a road trip or before they head to the airport to board a flight. Most of the time this stop is to fill up the gas tank but everyone takes advantage of this and grabs their snacks as well. We see people walking out with bags full of candy, chips, drinks, cakes, and other snacks but that bag is also full of bad news.

It's hard to comprehend that the foods and snacks we love the most could be harmful to us, but often it's the truth. Every year there are countless recalls for harmful chemicals or other items inside of our favorite foods and snacks causing injury or worse. Several popular snack foods have been found to have trace amounts of harmful chemicals, those snack foods have been banned in several states across the nation already, and Michigan could be next.

It may be time to put down your favorite snacks as they could slowly be causing your body harm, if you don't do so yourself, the state of Michigan may decide to put an end to things. Many states across America have already decided to take the health of their citizens seriously and have removed these harmful treats from their shelves. One of the main concerns is that these chemicals may be causing cancer as these snacks are digested over time.

The following snacks are in jeopardy of being banned in the Mitten State:

  • Lucky Charms
  • Froot Loops
  • Skittles
  • Nerds
  • M&M’s
  • Swedish Fish
  • Flamin’ Hot Cheetos
  • Doritos
  • Gatorade
  • other sports drinks
  • and more are all on notice.

All of these snacks and beverages are on the chopping block for the following chemicals:

  • brominated vegetable oil
  • potassium bromate
  • propylparaben
  • Red Dye No. 3
  • titanium dioxide
  • BHA
  • Yellow 5
  • Yellow 6
  • Red 40
  • and azodicarbonamide, or ADA

The current laws are encouraging companies to change their recipes rather than banning the snacks completely. There is no legislature or bills written at the moment to have these snacks banned within the state of Michigan, but as more states begin to make this change, Michigan could follow suit.
