Cocaine

As a little kid, I didn't know what cocaine was, I just liked music and once got scolded for singing Eric Clapton's version of the song "Cocaine" at school. I didn't know what it was, I just liked the song but my teacher informed me it was a terrible drug that is bad for people. I will go on record as saying I still like the song.

I'm not sure who discovered cocaine, but the first description of it being used by humans was around 1451 by Florentine traveler Amerigo Vespucci. Cocaine was first used medically during that time but in 1532, Spanish soldiers supplied Indian laborers in silver mines to chew coca leaves because it made them easier to control and exploit.

In 1859, German chemist Albert Niemann was the first to isolate and extract cocaine from coca leaves and give it the name cocaine. It wasn't until the 1880s that it became popularized in the medical community as a cure for depression and sexual impotence. Since then, the drug has taken a significant downturn and is listed as an illegal substance.

According to WOOD, a Texas man, Charles Celestine, drove a semi-truck up to a home that was being watched by police and dropped off a duffle bag. Celestine spent only five minutes in the home and then drove off, only to get pulled over by GRPD. Police discovered Celestine was hauling 34 pounds of cocaine, $150,000 cash, and a weapon.

A man by the name of Timothy Gant left the home shortly after Celestine was pulled over. GRPD pulled Gant over and found that he was carrying $40,000 which led to a search of his home where officers located 47 pounds of cocaine and two handguns.

If convicted the two men are looking at life in prison.
