Grand Rapids' summer concert season may be over, but that hasn't stopped some of Michigan's favorite celebrities from swinging through. Last week, acclaimed astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson was in GR to talk movies and science; Bryan Cranston, a.k.a. Walter White, was all over downtown before his appearance at the ArtPrize Closing Ceremonies; and Grand Rapids was surprised to hear Anna Kendrick talk about the city on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

But just a few days later, Grand Rapids got to enjoy yet another celebrity wandering the city: actor John C. Reilly, known for roles in "Step Brothers", "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby", "Wreck-It Ralph", and more. Here's why and what he did.

Mister Romantic & John C. Reilly In Grand Rapids

Mr. Reilly was in town to perform his acclaimed vaudeville stage show, Mister Romantic. The performance was held at Fountain Street Church on October 10th and featured Mister Romantic singing songs from the Great American Songbook and songs from John C. Reilly's album What's Not to Love?, alongside his Grammy-nominated backing band. The show has toured since 2022.

After his show wrapped, Reilly was spotted grabbing dinner at Max's South Seas Hide Away, just a few streets up from the Fountain Street Church, before heading out. But this Grand Rapids stop felt a bit like a homecoming for Reilly.

Reilly is spotted around West Michigan pretty often, and he even owns his father's old cabin here. He's quoted in a New York Times article as saying he loves the shoreline and is "obsessively making time-lapse videos of Michigan's extraordinary sunsets."

The next stop on Mister Romantic isn't until November. Read more about it here and listen to the album here.

Michigan Celebrity Sightings: John C. Reilly

With a cabin in West Michigan, actor John C. Reilly is a frequent flyer to the Mitten State (literally, check out a photo from him at a Muskegon airport below).

He also visits for musical performances and the occasional Detroit Tigers game. Got any pictures of Mr. Reilly in Michigan you'd like to share? Pass them along and we'll add 'em to the gallery.
