Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Stops At Grand Rapids Coffee Shop

Election season has been heating up here in Michigan, and our state's Senate race is one of the most closely watched in the country. Ahead of the August 4th election, the current candidates are pulling out all the stops to get last-minute voters on their side. Last night in Grand Rapids, Abdul El-Sayed, who is running for U.S. Senate, had a rally at DeVos Place and was joined by two current senators to drum up support.

One of those senators, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), stuck around and paid a visit to one of downtown Grand Rapids' most popular coffee shops before returning to D.C.

AOC Pays The Lantern A Visit

Following her participation with Bernie Sanders in last night's El-Sayed rally, AOC stayed the night here in Grand Rapids. Before heading out this morning, AOC got herself a coffee from the Lantern Coffee Bar & Lounge and took photos with fellow coffee lovers. The owner, Jon Bailey, had this to say about the visit:

She came in this morning around noon. She was very kind and more than willing to take photos with my staff and a few other folks that were stopping in. It was a quick stop but we're all big fans/supporters here.

The Lantern has been open since 2013 and is located at 100 Commerce Ave SW. They have awards from Grand Rapids Food & Beverage and Grand Rapids Magazine, and were named Best Coffee Shop in Revue's "Best of the West" last year.
