Fake IDs

For as long as there have been IDs created, there has been someone willing to make fake ones.

Oh when most teenagers were underage and knew someone with a fake ID who could buy booze, that was a big deal having a connection like that back in the day.

The problem with using a fake ID in Michigan, if you get caught this could lead to a $2,000 fine and up to a year in jail. That is not quite what most people have in mind for a good staycation.

If you are caught in possession of a fake ID with the intent to sell that is a felony with a fine of up to $10,000 and 5 years in prison. Doesn't sound worth it to me but as long as people are willing to pay for a fake ID, there will be someone to oblige them.

One Local Michigan Bar May No Longer Accept IDs From Ohio

You would think a bar that wasn't willing to accept an Ohio ID would be some sort of Michigan-themed sports bar that just disliked Buckeyes and would refuse to serve them. That is not the case for one Michigan bar.

There is a bar located in Sault Ste. Marie called the Downtowner Tavern and recently made a the below Facebook post:

As you can see from the Downtowner Tavern Facebook post, they are having trouble with out-of-state fake IDs, especially ones from Ohio.

They are not profiling people of Ohio or any other state, heck they even bring up how many come from Michigan, but they have a liquor license to protect, and sometimes the good outweighs the bad.

I did like Eric Parker's suggesting the I.D. Checking Guide, but as you can see from the Downtowner Tavern response, they have the book but there are people making IDs who are very good at it and no book or technology can spot these IDs.

So if you have an out-of-state ID and are planning on visiting the Downtowner Tavern in Sault Ste. Marie, you better have a second proof of identification or you get nothing to drink off the bar menu except water or a soda.
