Steven Izzo's First Career Basket Brings Joy To Michigan State Fans And Teammates

It took 43 appearances, but Steven Izzo, son of Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo, has scored his first career basket in truly spectacular fashion.

The basket came during the final minute of the Michigan State vs Rutgers game on January 14th while the Spartans were up 72-52. Steven Izzo, who is 5'8, was up against Austin Williams, who is 6'4. With 33 seconds left, Izzo went to the basket and was fouled while shooting the ball. The ball bounced around multiple times before falling through the net.

The entire Spartan bench and the fans immediately erupted into fanfare. His teammates swarmed him in congratulations before he embraced his father, Hall of Fame coach Tom Izzo. To top it all off, Steven then went to the free throw line and completed the three point play. Before his basket today, he was 0-13 in his entire career.

Steven was handed the game ball by teammate Malik Hall after both teams shook hands. During his post game interview, Tom Izzo was visibly emotional when asked what it meant to him to see his son score,

"I love the fact that my players were probably more excited than I was"

The win brings the Spartans to 10-7 on the season and 2-4 in Big 10 play. Their next game is against Minnesota on January 18th at 6:30.
