This Iconic Michigan-Born Business Has Quietly Shutdown
Pure Michigan revolves around being outdoors and one of Michigan's most iconic brands has helped outdoor fanatics get everything they need to stay outside where they love to be.
However, if your go-to retailer is Moosejaw, the Michigan-born outdoor brand that has had a cult following since the 2000s, you may need to find a new favorite spot because it has quietly closed down.

Last week, Moosejaw's final Michigan location was among the final three locations around the country that quietly announced it was closing. It would appear Dick's Sporting Goods, which bought Moosejaw in 2023, is looking to consolidate its outdoor brands. Most Moosejaw locations, including their downtown Grand Rapids location, closed earlier this year.
Moosejaw has been a largely online marketplace since the early 2000s, with more than 70% of its profits coming from online sales in the 2010s. Its retail locations were expanding before the sudden closures of most of the physical stores.

Public Lands
Writing about this article on the morning of August 5th, I was on Moosejaw's website before it suddenly reloaded to Publiclands.com, which now apparently hosts and maintains Moosejaw's products. Users attempting to reach Moosejaw.com are now redirected to Public Lands and met with this message:
Hey, Friends! We are Public Lands
We’ve joined forces with Moosejaw to bring you gear from all the best brands, the same sweet loyalty program, the hottest deals and a 1% giveback that goes toward protecting our public lands for all.
It would appear going forward, that anything you wanted from Moosejaw will be found here instead. So Moosejaw is still around in spirit, it would seem.
