These Were Michigan’s Top Baby Names of 2023

Growing up, you meet people who have had their baby names picked out since they were in middle school, and then you meet people who haven't given it the time of day (and you know because their kid is named Willard or Bob. Or they looked around the room at the hospital and suddenly their kid's name is Window).

Thankfully, none of those names are trending, but we do know what the top names were last year thanks to the Social Security Administration. 

No Change At The Top

Every Mother's Day the Social Security Administration reveals the 1000 most popular baby names, and this year was no different. For the fifth year in a row, America had the same most popular boy and girl name: Liam for boys, Olivia for girls. Only one new name was on the top 10 for boys and girls: Mateo for boys.

Here are the top 10 boy names:

6. Mateo

10. William

Here are the top 10 girl names:

1. Olivia
2. Emma
3. Charlotte
4. Amelia
5. Sophia
6. Mia
7. Isabella
8. Ava
9. Evelyn
10. Luna

The SSA also highlighted how social media has had a growing impact on baby name choices, with many of the fastest-rising names being related to social media influencers (Kaeli and Eiden) or pop culture (Chozen and Cassian both coming from TV shows)

The top five fastest boy names:

4. Cassian
5. Kyren

The top five fastest girl names:

1. Kaeli
2. Alitzel
3. Emryn
4. Adhara
5. Azari

It's always a little humbling when one of the names you've picked as a baby name shows up on the most popular list. Suddenly your unique choice seems not so unique (Amelia is my top choice for a girl name, and apparently most of America is in the same boat). However, based on these rising names, a shakeup could be coming for the top 10.
