
Where Can You Swim in a Lake Near Grand Rapids, Michigan?
With how hot its been, we're all ready to hit the beach to cool off. Of course Lake Michigan isn't too far of a drive from Grand Rapids, but what if you're looking for somewhere closer?

Don't get me wrong, growing up on Lake Michigan, it has a special place in my heart!

I try to make it to my favorite beaches like South Beach in South Haven, Oval Beach in Saugatuck, and PJ Hoffmaster State Park in Muskegon as many times as possible every summer. In fact, a group of my girlfriends and I start planning our summer beach trips in like, January!

Sometimes though, maybe you aren't able to make a whole day of it, or you're just looking to take a quick dip somewhere close-by.
Plus it's nice to explore bodies of water outside of Michigan's Great Lakes. It's awesome to discover there are many inland lakes close to Grand Rapids that are great for swimming!
Of course, there's always City of Grand Rapids pools and splash pads too!
Still, there's just something about relaxing in a lake on a warm Michigan summer day, feeling that sand beneath your toes and breathing in fresh air. Some even have playgrounds, picnic spots, and hiking trails too! One even has a dog park near by.
One of my favorite spots less than 25 minutes from downtown Grand Rapids is Versluis Park, in Plainfield Township.

It's located a 50-acre man-made lake and has a great, sandy beach! Plus there's a playground, picnic facilities, a fishing pier, and a one mile paved walking trail. It's perfect for a day at the beach with the family!
