There have been plenty of abandoned and deserted Michigan houses that have been infiltrated by curiosity seekers...even houses where there is only the foundation left. But this is the first time I ever heard anyone referring to a 'collapsed' house.

And that seems to be exactly what this one is, hidden in the woods at Wolf Lake in Van Buren County.

Upon driving into the turnaround on the lake shore, the remaining chimney – covered in spray paint and graffiti – is secluded, but easy to see when the leaves are off the trees; otherwise, in summer you may never know it's there, only a stone's throw from the drive.

The house that was once there is gone, with a pool of water filling the foundation where it used to be. There are some remains of the foundation, big blocks of concrete that may have been part of the basement. Does the pool of water ever dissipate in warmer weather? It would be interesting to see what lies beneath.

As you walk toward the chimney, there is a fallen tree you must duck under with the word 'hello' spray-painted on the side – and the word 'goodbye' when you leave.

It's an odd little abandoned piece of property stuck out in the brush that is not scary or foreboding, but just quirky enough to appear as a mystery or secret place.

Take a look at the gallery below for a good handful of images of this lonely place in the Wolf Lake woods near Mattawan in Van Buren County.....
