Sitting in an undisclosed Michigan location (somewhere near Kalamazoo), lies this abandoned funeral home, which opened back n 1936. It was a family-operated business, handed down to the next generation.

According to Urban Explorer, in 2019 the building fell into disrepair after the owner was faced with several legal issues. The home closed for good on May 28 of that year, and in 2020 their licenses were revoked.

Since then, the insides were left pretty much undisturbed. Looking around, things are still in place: the guest chairs, display caskets, piano, embalming room, makeup fixtures...everything seems to be intact and not vandalized and no spray-painted graffiti or signs of looting - just as if it was still open. The waiting room looks as if it's ready for visitors.

Except for some dust coverings, the place has been left in pretty decent condition, and the 'house' itself is a grand structure. Even the old Culligan water dispenser is still plugged in and working. There's even an old "Record and Bill of Items" book, showing past customer records from the 30s and 40s.

One room contains a unit filled with unclaimed cremated remains...which makes me wonder: why haven't they been claimed by relatives? It seems like even after closing, family members of the deceased would demand these.

The gallery below takes you inside for a quick tour of this deserted funeral home, located somewhere in western Michigan...
