Warning for Michigan! Don’t Eat That Broccoli – Here’s Why
There's been a recall involving broccoli in Michigan, and you and your family could be in danger.
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), particular packages of broccoli florets that have been sold in Michigan could be contaminated with listeria.

To be clear, not all broccoli that's been sold recently or is currently for sale is affected by this voluntary recall.
Packages Affected by Broccoli Recall in Michigan
Specifically, if you bought broccoli florets from a Michigan Walmart, you might want to take a closer look at the packaging.
According to the FDA, "the specific products involved are 12-ounce bags of Marketside Broccoli Florets sold at Walmart stores identified by having a UPC code "6 81131 32884 5" on (the) back of (the) bag, with Best if Used by Date Dec 10, 2024, and Lot Code: BFFG327A6 on (the) front of (the) bag."
No other stores besides Walmart are affected.
Officials point out that all the products that are potentially affected by this recall are past their expiration date and are no longer on store shelves. No other Marketside or Braga Fresh (the company that produces Marketside broccoli) products are affected by this voluntary recall.
Can Listeria Be Dangerous?
So far no one has reported becoming sick from having eaten any of the broccoli affected by this recall. Health officials happened to discover the potential for listeria contamination in this batch of broccoli florets during routine random testing.
According to the Mayo Clinic, listeria "can be fatal to unborn babies, newborns and people with weakened immune systems," but is usually not life-threatening to otherwise healthy people.
