Healthcare Hoax: Flint Woman Charged for Impersonating Nurse

A Flint woman is facing serious charges after allegedly posing as a registered nurse at three Michigan nursing facilities.

The last thing you want to find out is that you or a loved one has been lied to and the care you thought was being provided by a licensed healthcare professional was actually given by someone pretending to be one.

According to ABC 12, Cassandra Alvera Gilleylen, 52, has been charged with 30 counts of unauthorized practice of a health profession and three counts of identity theft.

Apparently, Gilleylen had been working at Mission Point in Clarkston and Holly, and Wellbridge in Clarkston. She wasn't just working there; she was working as a complete fraud without the proper licensing or even an educational background.

How in the world does something like this happen? She was allegedly working under the fake name of Cassandra Alvera Bowens. I ask again, how in the world does something like this happen?

I'm not here to claim that I know everything about the healthcare system, but how can a woman slip through the cracks and go unnoticed as a fraud from Sept. 24, 2023, through Mar. 5, 2024? That's a long time to work with patients without knowing what she's doing.

Attorney General Dana Nessel:

Licenses to practice as a health care professional exist primarily to protect people from harm. Schemes to avoid licensing requirements are dangerous, and my department takes them very seriously.

While the case is still under investigation, Gilleylen is due in court on June 4.
