Jamestown Library Announces Potential Closing Date After Failing To Secure Funding

Libraries are a place of peace for a lot of people. Whether it's a place to study for school or personal gain, or maybe just the place you go to check your email if you don't have access to your own personal computer: libraries are an important part of our community.

So when I heard the news about the Patmos Library in Jamestown losing their funding due to their millage passing, I was heartbroken. In case you missed the news, the Patmos Library fell under a cloud of controversy after community members objected to some books that were being offered including the graphic novels Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe and Kiss Number 8 by Colleen A.F. Venable and Ellen T. Crenshaw.

While most stories have a 'hero' who comes in to save the day at the end of the book, it seems that the hero at the end of the story for the Patmos Library may not be coming to save the town after all.

While, the library will technically be able to put themselves back on the ballot before their anticipated final days, those in charge believe that even if a millage passed for the library, it would still be hard to get the funding to the library.

When is the current anticipated closing date for the Patmos Library in Jamestown?

At their meeting on Monday, November 21st board members set a tentative final date for the library in September 2024.

While board members may discuss ways to save the library once the newly elected members join the board in January, it looks like we have a final countdown to say goodbye to this local commodity.
