It's official. According to an article from Variety.com, Jerry Lewis will step down from hosting the Labor Day weekend Muscular Dystrophy Association telethon this year. He's been hosting the telethon for 45 years.

I can't remember a single Labor Day weekend without the telethon in my entire life. When I was younger, it was fun to watch. Lots of entertainment, etc. As I got older, I was simply irritated that it was interrupting my regularly scheduled programming.

Looks like the telethon is also making some changes. Instead of airing for 21 1/2 hours as it has in the past, it will air for a mere 6 hours. It will air only from 6p.m. until midnight in all time zones.
