Katharine McPhee is still coping with the death of her father, but she's pulling through with the promise of love and comfort of her close ones.

In a recent Instagram photo shared Saturday (July 22), the American Idol star indicated her happy future and matrimony with fiancé David Foster by flashing her engagement ring along with a triumphant message in honor of her dad, Daniel McPhee, who passed suddenly last week.

"It’s been a hard week. Lots of tears but I want to thank my friends and family for all the love and support. My dad was so happy for me," the singer began her note. "My ring was the last thing I showed my dad before he passed and makes me smile when I look at this as a reminder of our last conversation. And now I’m ready to share with all of you what has been my sunshine amongst this painful loss. My love wisely said to me the other day that 'death is the only thing that is 100 percent inevitable and the thing we are least prepared for.' So today we’re celebrating life and not forgetting love."

As previously reported on July 17, the 34-year-old revealed the heartbreaking news about her father's passing via social media: “I can’t believe I’m even writing this … But it is with heavy heart that I share that my sweet sweet Papa left this earth yesterday morning."

His death came just weeks after McPhee announced her engagement to the 68-year-old record producer earlier this month. The couple, who were first whispered to be seeing each other in May 2017, confirmed their relationship when they appeared at the 2018 Met Gala in NYC.
