Update: You can watch the work session live here:

As mask mandates have been put in place across West Michigan, vocal groups of anti-maskers have erroneously targeted local politicians and school boards with their ire. Now the Kent County Health Department is inviting comments from the public, including anti-maskers, at a Thursday work session for the Kent County Board of Commissioners.

The department has moved the work session to DeVos Place to handle the expected high turnout for the Thursday morning meeting.

On hand for the meeting will be Kent County Health Department Director Adam London and Kent County Corporate Counsel Linda Howell. The meeting is scheduled to include a presentation from the health department on the K-6 masking order issued last week and will immediately be followed by public comments.

It is expected that the masking presentation will include the science behind the masking guidelines that were issued last week, and address the legality of public health orders. Both topics seem to have been targeted by disinformation campaigns online.

In a statement on social media, the Kent County Health Department invites the public to the meeting:

Any members of the public who wish to participate in public comment pertaining to the School Mask Public Health Order can do so during the Board Work Session tomorrow at DeVos Place in the Steelcase Ballroom at 10 a.m.

As part of the agenda, the county also posted this notice:

Due to public interest on this issue and for resident convenience, this meeting will be
livestreamed on the County’s YouTube page and on the home page of the County’s website.
Those participating online may submit comments to publiccomment@kentcountymi.gov.
The session will also be recorded and posted on the County’s website at
