The National Weather Service confirmed that there were a total of 7 tornadoes in Michigan last Thursday night.
The severe weather we experienced knocked out power to more than 450,000 Michiganders and left a trail of destruction along the way.
Now that the storms have passed, the clean-up has begun.

There are several locations where you can drop off storm debris.
Plainfield and Alpine Townships
Versluis Park: 3650 Versluis Park NE, Grand Rapids
- Saturday, August 26 – Saturday, September 2 (8:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.)
Property at 5580 Alpine Avenue, Comstock Park
- Monday, August 28 – Friday, September 1 (12 p.m. - 6 p.m.)
Who Can Drop Off Storm Debris?
Only Alpine and Plainfield Township residents and property owners.
Residents will need to provide identification for drop-off.
What Items Can Be Dropped Off?
Yard waste or tree debris only; no commercial or industrial products will be accepted. Loads will be inspected and any load that is not “green,” meaning tree or brush waste, will be rejected.
Cannon Township
Cannon Township Center, 6878 Belding Road NE, Rockford, Michigan
- Storm waste drop-off is available Sunday through Saturday, 24 hours a day.
- Water, bathrooms, and phone charging are also available.
