Kesha’s Unfortunately-Titled ‘Die Young’ Yanked Off the Radio After Sandy Hook Tragedy

Kesha's 'Die Young' may be a youthful anthem about living life to the fullest, but the song's title evoked something much darker in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings -- so the track is now being shelved by radio stations across the country.

According to TMZ, the song has been slowly disappearing from playlists in response to the Newtown, Conn. tragedy. On the day of the shooting (Dec. 14), 'Die Young' was No. 3 on radio playlists and was reaching 167 million listeners worldwide. But by the next day, that number had dropped down to 164 million listeners -- and continued to plummet.

By yesterday, the listener total was at 148 million, which hints that stations are taking the unfortunately-named song out of circulation.

A music expert said such a drop is “extremely rare,” and compared it to what happened back in 2006 when the Dixie Chicks insulted then-President Bush and saw themselves banned from country radio.

And as our sister site PopCrush points out, Chris Brown's music suffered a similar fate after his 2009 assault on Rihanna.

Sadly for us all, Brown didn't stay persona non grata for very long. But maybe now that he's insulted so much of his remaining fan base, he's a little closer to falling into a vast void of well-deserved insignificance.
