Later This Month, All-Female Team Of Astronauts To do Spacewalk
On the heels of International Women’s Day Friday, it’s exciting that NASA just announced that later this month, the first all-female spacewalk is scheduled.
According to MSN.com, the spacewalk is scheduled for March 29th. NASA also told MSN that the walk wasn’t organized because it was Women’s History Month. NASA spokeswoman Stephanie Schierholz told MSN,
“It was not orchestrated to be this way; these spacewalks were originally scheduled to take place in the fall … In addition to the two female spacewalkers, the Lead Flight Director is Mary Lawrence, and Jackie Kagey (also a woman), is the lead EVA (spacewalk) flight controller.”
Anne McClain and Christina Koch are the two astronauts that will conduct the spacewalk and Kristen Facciol, a Canadian Space Agency flight controller, will be manning the console during the mission according to ABC News and Kristen’s Twitter post.
MSN says the spacewalk is to supposed to last around 7 hours and will be testing and replacing equipment on the space station.
