It's a sad day for the people of Lowell as a local restaurant has announced that it will be closing its doors for good.

While the current concept in the space is relatively new, the business has been a part of downtown Lowell for a decade.

Back in February, Main Street BBQ in Lowell announced that the restaurant would be undergoing some changes. Owners were moving away from the BBQ fare that locals were used to and transitioning to a deli and tavern. At the time, the owners stated that there was simply too much competition for BBQ restaurants in the small town.

The new concept, serving up sandwiches, salads, burgers, pizza, and more, was named Main Street D&T. Customers were bummed to be losing their favorite BBQ menu offerings, but were excited to see a new type of restaurant in downtown Lowell.

Sadly, Erin, the owner of the restaurant, took to Facebook on June 23, 2025, to announce that the business would be closing for good. While it isn't closed yet, it will be soon, with Erin saying,

We will remain open for a few days or until the food runs out. Please visit and show support and love to this amazing staff. I am currently working with vendors to find the right job placement for these incredible individuals.

Why is Main Street D&T in Lowell Closing?

Being a business owner is hard these days, and being a restaurant owner is even harder. Erin said in the Facebook post that keeping the restaurant open was no longer sustainable.

Although our sales improved following the transition from BBQ to Deli, the underlying challenges leading to this closure have persisted. Our sales are down 50% compared to pre-COVID levels, and anyone familiar with the restaurant business knows that these numbers simply don’t add up.

Erin said that the only way the restaurant would have been able to remain open would have been by taking out personal loans. Something that they did not believe was the right decision for them.
