But, thanks to a surprise early finish on a major construction project, you’ve got one last-minute shot to claim a weekend reservation at one of Michigan’s most beloved parks, if you act fast.

How can I score a last minute camping spot this summer at Ludington State Park?

On social media this week, park officials announced that Ludington State Park will now reopen ahead of schedule, with day-use areas opening Wednesday, June 25, and campgrounds and overnight lodging set to reopen Thursday, June 26.

That means the coveted campsite reservations for June 26–30 will go live at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, via the Michigan DNR reservation site.

If you want in, you’ll want to be logged in and ready to click, many weekends in July and August are already fully booked, and these newly available last minute camping sites won’t last long.

The early reopening comes after a $2.6 million improvement project that began last fall. The project upgraded the main park road, the Hamlin Lake day-use parking lot, pedestrian walkways, the Skyline Trail, and various park buildings, which will make your visit smoother and more scenic than ever.

So why not enjoy it before everyone else does? Sounds like the perfect excuse to get out and enjoy some of that pure Michigan everyone loves so much.
